Coconut holds immense ritual significance in the Indian culture. And in the Konkan area, it is not only in demand for the rituals, but also is an inseparable part of Konkan cuisine. |

| Areca Nut |

Nut of Areca palm is used prominently in Hindu rituals and is the second
major plantation crop around the tropical coast. It is planted at 2.75 X 2.75 m spacing. |

| Orchard Crops |

Konkan’s Ratnagiri district is known world wide for its delicious Alphonso mangoes. But other crops like Cashew, Sapota and Banana are equally prominent here at Shivalaya Farm and are grown commercially. |

| Spices |

This is a prominent intercrop cultivated amongst the Coconut and Areca nut crops in our farm. Two Pepper vines are trained on each Palm as intercrops. The variety culticated is known as panniyur – I. |

| Other Crops |

Due to the appropriate Konkan weather, Papaya flourishes very well in our farm. Cultivated primarily as an intercrop in Sapota orchard, we are currently reducing the intercropping of Papaya as other main crops are growing. |
