Farm management.
 
In Konkan major plantation crops are Coconut, Areca nut and orchard crops are cashew, Mango, Sapota etc. Soil is red lateritic and slightly acidic in nature. As per soil depth and land terrain we plotted different areas for diferent crops. As per local market needs we have selected following commercial crops.
 
Plantation crops:
 
1.
Coconut: There are total three coconut plots, two posses west cost tall variety Named BANAVALI and one plot contains different Coconut varieties form India and abroad. Palms are planted at 7.5 X 7.5 m spacing. There are different intercropping pattern taken in each plot.

2. Arecanut: This plot is located in flat ground having deep soil. Plantation is done at 2.75 X 2.75 m spacing Shrivardhan Rotha is main variety. Intercropping is done with spices and condiments

Orchard Crops:
 
1.
Mango: Alphonso mango is call as King of Mango. Which is commercial crop of this entire belt. We planted some other best varieties of Indian mangos along with Alphonso in our farm to get good market price at local market, as Alphonso is very common in our area. We have total 26 varieties in our mango orchards. Few of them are specially grown for pickle purpose. High-density planting at 5 X 5 m is done. And crop is managed by heavy pruning and growth regulator applications.

2. Sapota: We grow major varieties of sapota namely Kalipatti and Cricketball. It is irrigated crop give good yield. Planted at 7.5 X 7.5 distance. It is planted in flat land.

3.
Cashew: Mostly Hilly and rough area is covered under cashew nut. It is low maintenance and high yielding crop. We have Vengurla-4, Vengurla-6, Vengurla-7 varieties. Out of these Vengurla-4 is more yielding one. Plants are planted at 7 X 7m spacing.
 
4.
Guava: We planted guava in two plots one was in well depth soil with flat terrain and another is on slope with less soil depth. We got success only in flat region with L-49 variety.
 
Other crops:
 
1.

Banana: It is grown as intercrop in Coconut, and other fruit collection areas. It is also used as shade tree in new growing plantation area and fruit plants area. Only few area is under monoculture plantation of banana.

Spices:

   
 
a.
Black pepper: It is major spice grown as an intercrop in coconut, Areca nut area. Two pepper vines are trained on each palms
b.
Nutmeg: It is grown as intercrop in Coconut and areca nut. In coconut it is planted at the center of empty space among palms. In areca nut it is planted at each alternate line in row as well as column.
c.
Cinnamon: It is planted in some special pattern call LAKHIBAG in coconut and in areca nut it is planted at 2.75 m distance at center of each block.
d.
Cardamom: Firstly we introduced it into areca nut plot as an intercrop but we observed that light is not sufficient. Latter we shifted those plants to coconut plots and planted in little open space besides nutmeg plants. We got good result out of it.
e. Clove: It is also planted in coconut as an intercrop. It is planted at center of Each coconut block.
 
3.
Papaya: It is also grown as intercrop in sapota orchard. As main crops are growing we are reducing intercropping of papaya. It performs very well in our condition and also has good market potential.
 
4. Pineapple: This is mainly grown in coconut orchard. In each coconut block 80 plants are accommodated in two strips. Plant spacing is 2 X 1’
